Altered Canvas

I interrupt the comic book hero projects today to bring you a shabby chic altered canvas.

After finally cleaning my room {yeah!} I sat down and had to play for a bit as a reward. I picked up a pack of these burlap canvases that I really like the other day and since I already had some photos printed of my darling little grandbaby I was able to whip this up fairly quick.

So nice being able to scrap for a girl for a change, a big change that is.

I stole the title from Teresa Collins pp since I was using her paper it just seemed like the perfect title. I think I used it somewhere else but oh well does that really matter?

I popped up the Beautiful word.

I used my new well really not that new just haven't really used it before Butterfly die. I love how intricate it is. I had some glitter paper so opted to make the butterfly sparkle.

I may give this to my DIL and son or I may just keep it.

Two down four to go

So on Monday I gave you a bit of a sneak peek of what I have been making and today I have two of my six altered canvas done for my dd. She is redecorating the boys room into a superhero theme and crafty me decided to make them some art for their wall.

The canvas is just an 8x8 and I then wrapped them in some cotton. I cut the words and stars from felt which I ironed a bit of fusing onto the back to help the cameo cut them. I have to say it was easier to cut the stars using my spellbinders so I opted for that route. I also found it better to fussy cut the bottom layers of matting where I could. Then I glued everything together. I was hoping to sew them together but decided that was a much bigger effort than I originally thought it would be.

I also have been making some progress on their quilts. 6 of the 8 rows have been assembled. Of course I still have to finish two more rows and then back it and bind it. And unfortunately this is just one quilt, I still have a whole other one to make. I am hoping to find some time this weekend to progress but have promised my chiropractor to take many many breaks and not over do it. She wanted to limit me to just 1 hour a day sewing to which I just laughed. Thankfully she sews so she understood.

It's My Unbirthday

Yep I am celebrating my unbirthday which is not to be confused with my half birthday which is only celebrated once a year.

So I needed to bake a cake of course. Well actually it's the cake that made me want to celebrate my unbirthday because life never has enough cake in it, or at least for me.

I decided to make a Vanilla Bean cake and frosted it with some whipped ganache frosting and adorned it with some pastel sprinkles, a proper looking unbirthday cake if ever I saw one.

And since I was in a full on baking mode I also whipped up my dh some chocolate and peanut butter chip cookies.

And if you want to take a little peek at something I am working on for my dd you can take a gander at these little babies. I was hoping to get a few finished but decided I needed cake instead. So that's where my play time went.

And lastly just a few photos from my garden because springtime is pretty much in full bloom around here. In fact I have two wisteria's growing on a pergola over my patio and never have they every been in bloom at the same time. I have a double purple and then the typical pink Chinese variety. Usually they bloom one and then the other so my dh said we needed to have an outdoor party before they have finished blooming thus my grandbabies and dd are coming over next weekend for our outdoor dinner party.

Cowboy Kids

I really liked this photo of my dh and his sisters. It's just the quintessential example of every early 60s county Christmas. The matching plaid shirts, the hats and my dh with his 6 shooters.

I left a spot for him to journal. I have done a few pages for him and then I decided that was really very silly of me, after all these are his pictures, they should be his thoughts and handwriting. He confessed he didn't know much about that picture but claimed he didn't go anywhere without his 6 shooters so I told him to journal just that. I think he'll get the hang of scrapbooking just yet.

Hello Happiness

I am slowly chipping away at some more layouts for my dh. I will say it's kind of hard to keep doing a one photo page plus the photos are definitely vintage in both color tones and clarity.

I don't know about you but I am trying to use up product on hand and while I won't say I am on a freeze it's definitely chilly in my art room. I have a ton of project life cards and honestly I didn't buy but two sets (actually one set and split a set with my friend). My bff buys ALL the sets and bequeaths me half as gifts. I really don't mind but alas now I have a ton and really need to start using them so I opted to put one on a layout. The other pp is from a 6x6 pad and then I dotted the splatters and added a few embellies.

Finished my dresses

The last of my recent sewing projects. I finally finished that white dress and made a cute little sun dress and have already started on another. I plan on making at least one or two more dresses and then taking a break. My ds tells me I am obsessed with sewing. I think I just have rediscovered my love for it.

I added a small pink rosebud which I really think this dress needed. It ties in the back but alas I forgot to take a picture of it.

This dress made up for all the difficulty the white one gave me. Very simple and easy in comparison. And of course a cute sun dress just begs for a ruffled diaper cover.  I really wanted to sew some sort of applique on the front but I just couldn't find any that really went with the dress, maybe on the next one.

You can see how this criss crosses in the back, very cute.

Well that's all I have for today.

A Minky Blanket

I have to confess I am addicted to eye candy, love anything with some color and/or pop so when I saw this blanket on a web page I knew I had to make it, alas that means nothing on my end was creative other than sewing the blanket.

This is made from "minky" fabric and if you've never heard of it well it's just feels like mink would, very silky but kind of soft. It is considered a microfiber.

It is called a rag quilt and I used this tutorial in case anyone is interested in making one for themselves. I will say the fabric linked on their page is sold out but I did find some at the Missouri Star Quilt store.

This took me the better part of the day but truly was easy enough to make. I am giving it to my granddaughter and while it's probably a little big for her now I think it's something that can grow with her.

Close up

Here it is full size. The other side is the same, just not rag seam. I will say that clipping was probably the hardest part and took me the most time.

And ready for gift giving.

Another Layout for my dh

I really am enjoying having some vintage pictures to scrap, especially of my husband. I just wish I had more of them. I think when all said and done I will have enough pages for a thin album, but I guess that's better than none.

Using more of Teresa Collins pp along with some Papertrey ink stamps, wooden veneer, enamel dots and various dies.

I outlined the page in black since it's matted on white and I wanted you to be able to see the white this time.

On The Rogue

I have to tell you I went to the Expo over the weekend, well Thur/Fri and I was completely unprepared to actually scrap. I grabbed things to keep me busy but normally I am so much more organized, not so much this time.

Which brings us to this layout, I don't think I would have been able to put it together at the time except for the kit I received. Thus why a vintage picture is sitting on not so vintage looking pp.

It's different I will give you that and I am thankful I at least had something to work on while I was there. And I just needed to work on the title when I got back home.
